Wedding photo shot list

We read the 15 wedding shot lists that rank on Google for “wedding shot list” and “wedding photo list” and counted how many of them include each photo. The result is below, chapter by chapter, with the count beside every shot and a family photo order you can hand to whoever rounds people up. Tick what you want, print it, and give your photographer a copy.

The shots most lists agree on

7 shots appear in all 15 lists: shoes, jewelry and accessories laid out, exchanging vows, the first kiss, the whole wedding party, with the groomsmen, the first dance, the room set up: tables, centerpieces, place cards. The first look is in 14 of 15 even though most lists call it optional. Where they differ is the extras: sparklers and golden-hour portraits each make only 5 lists, and night portraits 3.

Getting ready

Put every small thing you want photographed in one bag the night before: rings, invitation, shoes, jewelry, perfume, letters. Your photographer can shoot the details in ten minutes instead of hunting for them while you get dressed.

First look

Optional, and 14 of the 15 lists still include it. If you skip it, move these frames to the aisle: the reaction as you walk in is the same moment, seen from the other end.

Ceremony

Ask your officiant before the day where your photographer may stand and whether flash is allowed. Some venues and religious spaces restrict both, and it changes which of these shots are possible.

Family formals and wedding party

The only chapter your photographer can’t improvise: they don’t know who your aunt is. Write the groupings down by name, in order, and give a copy to someone who knows both families.

Couple portraits

The lists name couple portraits but rarely say when. Twenty minutes is enough if you know the spot in advance; book them for the softest light your timeline allows, and keep a second, shorter slot near sunset if you can.

Reception

Tell your photographer the order of events and who is giving toasts, so they are in front of the speaker before the first word. Toast photos are mostly reaction photos: the couple listening, the room laughing.

Send-off

If your photographer’s coverage ends before the last song, stage the exit earlier: guests line up, light the sparklers, you run through, then everyone goes back to the dance floor.

Family formals

A family photo order that saves time

Two rules make this order fast. Photograph grandparents first so they can sit down, and change only a few people between frames: start with each family at its largest and let people step out, instead of calling a new group every time. Copy it, swap in names, and cross out what doesn’t apply to your family.

Partner B’s side

Together

That is 15 groupings. Step-parents, a grandparent who raised you or your own children go in where they belong in your family, not at the end.

Not sure what a shot will look like with the two of you in it? Pick a wedding moment above and see a version made from one selfie each, chapter by chapter. It is a planning tool, not a replacement for your photographer.

How we counted

On October 14, 2026 we pulled Google’s US results for “wedding shot list”, “wedding photo list” and “wedding photography shot list” and read every page that publishes a full-day list. A shot counts for a list when the list names it, under any wording (“processional” and “walking down the aisle” are one shot). Brides and The Knot rank too but block automated reading, so they are not counted. Every photo on this page is an AI-generated example of fictional people, made with our studio; none comes from these lists.
